Ilya Sutskever teamed up with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy to unveil a new AI firm, focused on developing a Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI). It aims to develop a machine that is more intelligent than humans in a safe way. This initiative is hailed as the first dedicated lab focusing solely on creating safe superintelligence, positioning it as the most critical technical challenge of our time.

SSI is an American company that has its offices located in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, Israel. The mission of SSI is to solve what it calls the “most important technical problem of our time”. By focusing exclusively on Safe Superintelligence, the company aims to avoid the distractions and pressures faced by other AI organizations, such as product cycles and competitive market demands.

SSI plans to build a lean, team of the world’s top engineers and researchers dedicated solely to this mission. Their approach will involve revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs to ensure safety leading to the advancement of capabilities. The company’s unique business model insulates it from the outside pressures of having to deal with a large and complicated product and having to be stuck in a competitive rat race.

This initiative underscores the growing importance and complexity of safely navigating the future of artificial intelligence. The company’s unwavering focus on safety, coupled with its innovative business model that prioritizes long-term progress over short-term gains, sets a new standard in the AI industry.
