Nabla, the leading ambient AI assistant for clinicians, announced a new partnership with Carle Health, an Illinois-based health system. Following a successful four-week pilot program across multiple specialities, Nabla’s ambient AI assistant will be deployed to Carle Health’s multi-speciality physician group practice, with plans for gradual implementation throughout the year to 1,500 providers, including emergency rooms and hospitalists.
As U.S. health systems increasingly adopt ambient documentation solutions to alleviate administrative burdens and enhance patient face time, Nabla’s AI assistant has proven to be a valuable asset. During the pilot, over 50% of Carle Health clinicians reported saving at least one hour per day on documentation tasks. The assistant’s ability to integrate seamlessly with Carle Health’s Epic EHR system ensures a streamlined workflow for providers.
“Nabla fits seamlessly into our workflows, and thanks to the onboarding support and training we received throughout the pilot program, we started seeing results immediately,” said Dr. David Lovinger, Associate Chief Medical Officer and Chief Informatics Officer of Carle Health. “Nabla enhanced the patient experience at our pilot sites by giving our providers more face time with their patients, knowing that it was doing the heavy lifting for charting. We look forward to rolling Nabla out to additional practice groups and feel confident in the results we’ll continue to achieve.”
Regardless of their specialization, doctors frequently dedicate nine of their weekly 15.5 hours to paperwork and administrative duties, including EHR documentation. This administrative load detracts from direct patient care and adds nearly six hours per week to clinicians’ “pajama time,” or after-hours EHR work. Nabla’s ambient AI assistant addresses this issue by utilizing standard templates, telehealth integration, and multi-speaker functionality.
The integration of Nabla with Carle Health’s Epic system is designed to enhance efficiency further. Clinicians will use Nabla within the Epic interface on desktops or mobile devices, reducing the need for toggling between applications. Nabla will automatically extract relevant patient data from Epic to inform clinical notes, which can then be exported to Epic with a single click, eliminating manual copying and pasting. Additionally, Nabla will suggest updates to patient problem lists, such as new diagnoses made during visits.
“Our joint efforts to implement this Epic-integrated roll-out ensures clinicians at Carle Health can experience the full value of Nabla,” said Alex LeBrun, co-founder and CEO of Nabla. “We’re thankful to partner with future-forward medical groups in the Stratum Med network, which share our dedication to restoring joy to providers through technological innovations.”
Nabla’s rollout at Carle Health marks a significant step in the evolution of healthcare documentation, promising to reduce the administrative workload for clinicians and improve patient care quality by allowing more direct interaction time during visits.
