Here are the excerpts from the interview:
Nikki Langman, you’ve built your career around helping leaders achieve success without sacrifice. What personal experiences shaped this mission?
My mission is deeply personal. I spent over 30 years trapped in cycles of addiction, self-destruction, and chasing external validation. I know firsthand what it means to sacrifice well-being for achievement, to push harder and harder while feeling emptier inside. When I turned my life around, I discovered that true success isn’t about burnout—it’s about building a life where achievement and fulfillment coexist. Through ultra-endurance running, I learned the power of resilience, discipline, and self-mastery. Those lessons, combined with my corporate and entrepreneurial experiences, shaped my belief that leaders don’t have to choose between professional excellence and personal well-being. They can—and should—have both.
In 2025, we’re seeing unprecedented pressures on corporate leaders. How do you help your clients redefine success beyond traditional metrics?
Traditional success metrics—titles, revenue, promotions—are outdated if they come at the cost of health, relationships, and personal identity. I help leaders redefine success by shifting their focus to a ‘whole-life’ perspective. This means measuring success by impact, fulfillment, and sustainability. My coaching challenges leaders to set goals that honor their ambitions without neglecting their well-being. We prioritize values-driven leadership, emotional intelligence, and energy management. When leaders make this shift, they not only perform better professionally but also experience deeper satisfaction in their personal lives.
You emphasize ‘whole-life success’ in your approach. Can you share a transformation story of a client who dramatically shifted their leadership style while reclaiming their personal life?
One of my clients, a high-level executive in finance, came to me on the brink of burnout. She was working 70-hour weeks, missing family events, and feeling disconnected from her own sense of purpose. Through our coaching, we restructured her leadership approach, integrating boundaries, delegation strategies, and purpose-driven decision-making. She shifted from a reactive, high-stress work mode to a proactive leadership style, empowering her team and reclaiming her time. Within months, she was not only excelling professionally but also re-engaging in her personal life—rebuilding her relationships, taking care of her health, and rediscovering joy outside of work. This is the essence of whole-life success.
Your BADASS framework is unique and powerful. What inspired you to create it, and how has it evolved over time?
BADASS was born from my own transformation. It stands for Brave, Authentic, Direction, Action, Self-Love, and Self-Talk—the pillars that helped me rebuild my life and that I now use to empower others. It started as a personal philosophy but evolved into a structured framework as I coached more leaders and saw the universal struggles they faced. Over time, I refined it to be more adaptable to corporate settings, entrepreneurial journeys, and leadership development. BADASS is about unlocking confidence, courage, and self-mastery so leaders can show up fully in their careers and lives.
The corporate world often celebrates hustle culture. How do you help leaders, especially women, push back against these expectations while still advancing their careers?
Hustle culture thrives on the belief that exhaustion equals success. I coach leaders to challenge this mindset by reframing productivity through the lens of sustainability. We focus on smart work over hard work—leveraging strengths, setting boundaries, and leading with intention. For women, in particular, this means unlearning the societal pressure to ‘do it all’ and instead stepping into a leadership style that prioritizes impact over busyness. I equip them with strategies to communicate boundaries confidently, delegate effectively, and lead without overextending themselves.
In your experience coaching both male and female executives, what unique challenges do women leaders face in maintaining work-life boundaries, and how do you address these?
Women often face the double standard of being expected to be both high-performing professionals and primary caregivers. This leads to guilt, overwork, and burnout. I help my clients navigate these challenges by shifting the narrative from ‘work-life balance’ to ‘work-life integration.’ We identify their non-negotiables, create boundary-setting strategies, and practice assertive communication. I also emphasize self-talk—helping women silence the guilt and embrace the power of saying no. When they lead from a place of confidence and clarity, they create work environments that respect boundaries and well-being.
There’s often discussion about women having to choose between career advancement and personal fulfillment. How do you help your clients challenge this narrative?
The idea that women must choose between career success and personal fulfillment is outdated and limiting. I help my clients rewrite this narrative by proving that both are possible with the right strategies. We design leadership paths that integrate their professional goals with their personal values. This might mean redefining work structures, setting boundaries, or shifting mindsets around delegation and support. Women don’t have to do it all alone—they just need to be strategic about how they lead and live.
As someone who guides others in achieving balance, what practices do you personally rely on to maintain your own whole-life success?
I practice what I preach. My non-negotiables include daily movement—whether it’s running, training, or simply getting outside. I prioritize deep work sessions to maximize productivity without overworking. I set strong boundaries around my time, ensuring that I’m present for my family, my personal growth, and my clients. Most importantly, I continuously check in with myself—am I aligned with my values? Am I operating from a place of authenticity and purpose? These practices help me stay grounded and energized.
What message or advice would you share with aspiring women leaders who feel pressured to sacrifice their personal lives for professional advancement?
You don’t have to sacrifice yourself to succeed. In fact, the more you take care of yourself, the better leader you become. Prioritize what truly matters, set boundaries unapologetically, and own your worth. Success is not about doing more—it’s about leading smarter, living authentically, and making an impact in a way that aligns with your values. You are not here to burn out; you are here to lead boldly and live fully.
How do you want your work to be remembered or impact future generations of leaders?
I want my work to be remembered as a catalyst for change—a movement that empowered leaders to claim their voices, lead with authenticity, and redefine success on their own terms. I want future generations to look at leadership through a new lens—one that values courage, well-being, and impact over relentless hustle. If my work helps even one leader break free from self-doubt, step into their power, and create meaningful change, then my mission has been fulfilled.
