Apple has refused Meta’s offer to integrate its AI chatbot, Llama, into iPhone, due to concerns over Meta’s privacy practices, as per Bloomberg reports. The company did not find Meta’s privacy measures strict enough and was cautious about associating with a social networking company criticized for its privacy issues.
The two tech giants engaged in brief talks in March 2024 about a potential AI partnership, but these talks did not progress to a formal stage. Apple positions itself on privacy, and this would have been compromised with Meta’s practices.
Instead, Apple is focusing on collaborations with other AI companies:
– OpenAI’s ChatGPT: Already integrated into Apple’s iOS.
– Alphabet’s Gemini: Expected to be integrated in the near future.
– Anthropic’s Chatbot: Apple is also considering adding this to its offerings.
During the Worldwide Developer Conference 2024, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT into its devices, enhancing user experience with advanced AI features. It also revealed a suite of AI features termed “Apple Intelligence” for iPhone 15 Pro and later models.
Apple’s cautious approach towards AI integration highlights its prioritization of user privacy. By partnering with OpenAI and Alphabet, it will ensure that the devices remain at the forefront of innovation while maintaining the trust of its user base.
