Vantage Data Centers Plans $25 Billion AI Campus in Texas
Vantage Data Centers has announced one of the largest investments in AI infrastructure to date—a $25 billion AI campus in Shackelford County, Texas. The project highlights the unprecedented demand for large-scale computing power driven by artificial intelligence, cloud services, and emerging technologies.
Backed by private equity firm Silver Lake and asset manager DigitalBridge, the new facility—dubbed “Frontier”—is set to become the largest campus in Vantage’s global portfolio. With 1,200 acres of development space and a staggering 1.4 gigawatts of planned capacity, the project underscores Texas’ growing role as a hub for next-generation data infrastructure.
AI Infrastructure Driving Massive Investments
Artificial intelligence platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini rely on immense computational power. To meet these growing demands, hyperscale data centers must incorporate cutting-edge chips, ultra-dense servers, advanced cooling systems, and massive power reserves.
Industry giants including Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta are already investing billions to expand their global data center networks. Vantage’s Texas AI campus joins this wave, representing one of the boldest commitments yet to support the rapid acceleration of AI adoption worldwide.
The Largest AI Campus in Vantage’s Global Network
The Frontier campus will house 10 data centers designed for ultra-high-density racks exceeding 250 kilowatts each. Construction is already underway, and the first building is expected to go live in the second half of next year.
According to Vantage CEO Sureel Choksi, the facility represents a milestone in both scale and capability:
“This project is designed to deliver the kind of massive, sustainable, and future-proof infrastructure that AI demands,” Choksi stated.
Silver Lake’s Renewed Partnership with Vantage
Silver Lake’s relationship with Vantage Data Centers has come full circle. The private equity firm was a founding investor in Vantage in 2010, with Choksi himself joining the company in 2013 after his tenure at Silver Lake.
Silver Lake exited its investment in 2017 but was invited back in 2023 to help raise capital for Vantage’s expansion. Earlier this year, it co-led a $9.2 billion equity financing round with DigitalBridge, further solidifying its role in fueling Vantage’s growth.
Why Texas for AI Data Centers?
Texas has quickly emerged as a global data hub due to its vast land availability, robust energy infrastructure, and growing renewable energy initiatives. Shackelford County provides the scale and flexibility needed to support one of the most ambitious AI campuses in the world.
By strategically positioning in Texas, Vantage not only secures access to power and connectivity but also positions itself at the center of North America’s booming AI and cloud economy.
AI Campus: A Game-Changer for the Future of Data Infrastructure
The $25 billion AI campus in Texas represents more than just another data center development. It reflects the seismic shift in global computing needs as artificial intelligence continues to transform industries from healthcare to finance, retail to manufacturing.
With its 1.4-gigawatt capacity, ultra-dense AI-ready racks, and support from leading global investors, Vantage’s Frontier project is poised to redefine how mega-scale AI infrastructure is designed and delivered.
